New Look, Multiple Sites, and API v4
February 27th, 2009
One of my favorite things about my role at Spreedly is that I get to tell you about all the cool improvements that we’re pushing out for you to enjoy. I’ve got three things for you today: a new look (which you’ve already seen if you’ve been to http://spreedly.com in the past few days), the ability to manage multiple sites, and some details about API v4.
New Look
We’ve done a major overhaul of the Spreedly homepage. Here’s the newly launched homepage up next to the old homepage for comparison:
Check out those spiffy new screenshots!
This round of work was mostly focused on improving the content and is really only the beginning. We know we need a logo, and we have a couple of brand spankin’ new pages in the works. But it’s a start, and we believe a big step in the right direction.
Multi-Site Management
We found that a critical waypoint on the road to multi-user access was breaking out of the “one production site and one test site per user” mold. A little over a week ago we pushed out a change that appears simple on the surface but involved serious reworking of Spreedly’s innards: you can now have as many test and production sites as you want. Just select the site picker in the upper right hand corner of the screen, click “Create New Site”, and you’re off to the races.

One thing to note is that this involved moving a lot of settings off of user accounts and on to the sites themselves. If there’s a setting you’re having trouble finding, have a peek at “Site Details” under “Configuration” and see if it isn’t hiding in there.
API Version 4
A big part of adding multi-site support was changing up the urls to use the site’s name instead of the fixed “production” and “test” that they used before. This change also affected the API, and so we’ve revved the API up to version 4. As usual, version 3 continues to function and will remain available in a deprecated state for quite a while. You can read all about our API deprecation policy, and find the old version 3 docs, on the deprecation page.
More Coming Soon
This is really just the tip of the iceberg in terms of improvements that are coming down the pike – we have so many plans for Spreedly, and we’re working hard to make them a reality. From being able to invite others into your site to pushing out some exciting new public pages, expect more exciting announcements in the coming weeks. Thanks for following along with us!
